Today is a sad day. A teacher I have respected for a long time has passed away. It was almost 30 years ago when I was teaching with her in the same school. Although we did not teach the same grade, she always inspired young teachers--we were in our 20s-- with her smart ideas and a strong belief in the right things. I still remember she gave me a farewell gift when I left for the intensive training program in Tsukuba. She put short notes on the bill with a notice of not to abandon my good wills. I feel now that one of my eras has ended. Now I have realized that thanks to her, I have been able to keep the spirit of a junior high school teacher. Thank you, Ms. Matano-sensei.
